Marc Jacobs

Born in Ney York, Marc Jacobs graduated in 1984 at Parsons School of Design, where he was awarded Design Student of the Year thanks to the oversize polka-dot sweaters hand-knitted by his grandmother for his thesis-project. In 1993, the infamous grunge-collection designed for the sportswear brand Perry Ellis – think of a mix-and-match of combat-boots, flannel shirts, beanie hats, voile-dresses, stripes and florals – leaded to his dismissal but, at the same time, made his career, introducing Marc’s signature aesthetics, in his words “a little preppy, a little grungy, a little couture”.
